Did you ever try and catch a cricket when you were young? Remember how you could sneak up on one and almost get within reach, and it would jump just far enough away to keep you pursuing. After only a few jumps, you and the cricket were a good distance down the path from where you started.
This week I have been following a little cricket called worry to his favorite destination in the land of doubt. It started with just a few thoughts of concern about my family and friends. But soon I was a long way down the path, overexerting energy on what might happen and feeling overwhelmed.
Then came a gentle reminder from Psalm 46:10 saying, “Be still and know that I am God.” Stop running down the path of worry and remember who is in charge. I spent most of my week worrying about the future. God spent his week controlling the present so I would have a future.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 says, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."Come join me today as I try to stop chasing the elusive cricket of worry. Be still with me and let God be in control.
